Zack Greinke has gotten plenty of help from his teammates during his longest win streak since a Cy Young Award-winning season.
The first-place Brewers will try to continue supporting the right-hander during his attempt to tie the longest win streak in the majors this season in his first matchup with the Chicago Cubs on Thursday.
After losing his debut for Milwaukee on May 4, Greinke (6-1, 4.69 ERA) has won six straight decisions and his latest victory helped his team in its drive to the top of the NL Central. He struck out nine and gave up three runs over seven innings in a 5-3 victory over St. Louis on Saturday.
Greinke, who started 6-0 en route to the 2009 AL Cy Young with Kansas City, has a 4.30 ERA in his last seven starts but has also received a combined 38 runs of support. He started the season on the disabled list after suffering a cracked rib while playing basketball during spring training.
"So far, it's better than I ever could've imagined. We're playing great, it's fun to watch us play and it's been working out good. We're scoring a lot of runs," Greinke said. "I haven't put up a bunch of zeros, but it's been good enough to keep us in the game."
