The Minnesota Twins are surging.
Not surprisingly, their surge is coming at the expense of the Chicago White Sox.
Nick Blackburn looks to lead extend Minnesota's winning streak over the White Sox to seven games in the conclusion of this rain-shortened series at Target Field on Thursday afternoon.
Playing without star catcher Joe Mauer (leg weakness) since mid-April, the Twins (27-39) continue to languish at the bottom of the AL Central. However, they've won 10 of 12 to pull within two games of fourth-place Kansas City. Mauer is due to return to the lineup Friday.
In the meantime, Minnesota is capitalizing on another series with the White Sox (33-36), winning 4-1 on Wednesday after the opener of this scheduled three-game series was rained out the previous night.
The Twins have won 27 of the last 34 meetings with Chicago, including 13 of the last 15. They're trying to defeat the White Sox seven straight times for the first time since July 26-Sept. 20, 2004.
