Roy Halladay wasn't at his best in his last start, but he usually is when he faces the Washington Nationals.
Looking to win his 11th consecutive decision against the Nationals franchise, Halladay gets the ball Monday when the NL East-leading Philadelphia Phillies try to post their sixth straight victory over Washington in the opener of a three-game set in the nation's capital.
Halladay (6-3, 2.35 ERA) surrendered three runs in seven innings of Wednesday's 5-4, 19-inning victory over Cincinnati. While that line would be considered a quality outing for most pitchers, the reigning NL Cy Young winner also allowed a season-high 11 hits and failed to pitch into the eighth for the first time in four starts.
Halladay has gone the distance in his last two starts at Washington (22-30), including a six-hitter in a 3-2 victory April 13. He is 9-0 with a 1.49 ERA in his last nine overall outings versus the Nationals, with two of those victories coming this season.
