HP Pavilion, SAN JOSE, California
The San Jose Sharks were tied for last in the Pacific Division when the St. Louis Blues made their last visit to HP Pavilion.
The Sharks will be in a much better place when the Blues come to town this time.
San Jose looks to win its third straight and continue its playoff push Saturday night in its final matchup with the Blues this season.
Tied with Los Angeles with the division's fewest points on Jan. 15, San Jose (41-23-8) ended a season-worst six-game skid and avoided the team's first seven-game home losing streak since 1995 with a 4-2 win over St. Louis.
Since that victory, the Sharks are 19-4-3, including 8-1-2 at HP Pavilion, to grab the top spot in the Pacific. San Jose, four points back of second-place Detroit in the Western Conference standings, maintained its edge on Phoenix in the division race with Thursday's 3-2 victory over Minnesota.
Patrick Marleau recorded his team-high 28th goal -- and sixth game-winner since Feb. 1 -- on the power play with 15:00 left.
"It was a good time for the power play to step up," Marleau told the Sharks' official website. "(Wild goaltender Niklas) Backstrom was really good on their side and we finally got through. We stuck with it and it paid off. You can't stop shooting."
