A stiff neck might keep Henrik Lundqvist out of the New York Rangers' Sunday road matinee against the Pittsburgh Penguins. With the way they're scoring lately, the Rangers might not need a goaltender to carry them.
New York has scored six goals in consecutive games and 27 in its last six, and it may need that offensive surge to continue as it tries to potentially win a season-high fourth straight game without Lundqvist.
Lundqvist has started all 16 games for the Rangers (38-30-4) since Feb. 11, and he's been the only experienced goaltender on the roster since Martin Biron broke his collarbone three weeks ago.
But the two-time All-Star was bowled over by Montreal's Benoit Pouliot with 3:39 left Friday night, giving him a stiff neck and leaving his status in doubt for Sunday even though X-rays were negative.
"It's just pain, nothing that can get worse," Lundqvist told the Rangers' official Twitter feed after missing Saturday's practice. "It's still very stiff, but I had some treatment and will have the whole afternoon to take it easy."
